Breakthrough at Carlberg Tunnel

On Monday May 18, 2026, the final breakthrough was marked at the Carlberg Tunnel at Kleberget in Moss, Norway. The tunnel is now continuous, a good day for the double track project through Moss.

The Carlberg Tunnel is approximately 2.3 km long and forms part of the new double-track rail connection Sandbukta – Moss- Saastad between Oslo and Østfold. The breakthrough was carried out by Bane NOR, that has been responsible for this contract.

MossIA is responsible for the tunnel works up to the breakthrough zone towards the city centre. A breakthrough of this kind requires close coordination across contracts, and the collaboration with Bane NOR has worked well.

– We are pleased with how the interface work has been managed throughout this phase and would like to thank everyone who helped make this happen, says Audun Aaland, Project Director at MossIA.
