First subsection handed over to Bane NOR

On November 12, 2025, MossIA handed over the Sandbukta day zone area, the tunnel portal, and the northern part of the Moss Tunnel to Bane NOR. The delivery marks an important milestone in the construction of the 2.3-kilometre tunnel that forms a key part of the Sandbukta–Moss–Saastad project

November 12, MossIA formally transferred a 1,400-metre subsection to Bane NOR. The delivered area includes the northern part of the Sandbukta open-cut zone, the tunnel portal, and the northern stretch of the Moss Tunnel.

This handover represents significant progress in the Moss Tunnel construction, which is advancing towards completion as part of Bane NOR’s major rail development through Moss.

-“This handover marks an important step for both the project and the team”, says Project Director Audun Aaland. “I am proud of the team and the systematic work that has brought us here, and we greatly appreciate the assignment and the collaboration with Bane NOR”.

Scope of work completed

The subsection delivered to Bane NOR includes:

  • Completion of the Moss Tunnel from the Verket escape tunnel to the northern portal
  • Installation of infrastructure, drainage systems, and cable ducts
  • Construction of the tunnel portal
  • Construction of two technical buildings
  • Preparatory works in the northern track area, including foundations for track switches and lighting masts
  • Landscaping and reinstatement of the dayzone area

Tunnel construction has followed the classical drill-and-blast method, including scaling, shotcrete application, waterproofing, and cast-in-place concrete.

Congratulations to everyone who has contributed, – one step closer to delivering 9 out of 10 kilometres of new double track that will give a faster, safer and more modern railway.
